Inserting a line break in a spreadsheet cell

  • To insert a line break in a spreadsheet cell:
    • Double-click on the cell in which you want to insert the line break.
    • Place the cursor in the cell at the position where you want to insert the line break.
    • Press Cmd-Return.

N.B: This will not work if the cursor is in the input line at the top of the spreadsheet. The cursor must be in the cell itself.

Automatic line breaks in a range of cells

Select the range of cells in which you want to insert an automatic line break. Then choose the Cells… item from the Format menu. Click on the Alignment tab, and in the Properties section, check the Wrap text automatically box (and possibly the Hyphenation active box as well).

Inserting a line break in a cell in a table in Writer

A line break in a table cell in a Writer document can be inserted simply by pressing Return, just like in normal text. If the text in the cell exceeds the width of the cell, a line break is inserted automatically.
