Current Version

The latest version of NeoOffice is: 2.0 Alpha 4.

NeoOffice 2.0 Alpha 4 requires a PPC Macintosh running Mac OS X 10.3 or 10.4 or an Intel Macintosh running Mac OS X 10.4.

Current Patch

Alpha 4 Patch-3 is now available.

The new changes included in this patch are listed below:

  • Menu shortcuts that use a hyphen now working with both the regular hyphen and the numeric keyboard
  • Fixed minor kashida issues with final and medial meem
  • Fixed a problem where certain Zapfino ligatures not correctly shown
  • Fixed an issue with spurious dialogs appearing when installing packages using the Package Manager on PowerPC machines

Note: Alpha 4 Patch-3 requires a full installation of NeoOffice 2.0 Alpha PowerPC or NeoOffice 2.0 Alpha Intel and will not install on any version of NeoOffice 1.x. Patch-3 includes all fixes and additions of previous patches.

2.0 Alpha 4 Patch-2: The new changes included in this patch are listed below:

  • Fixed a number of font-related problems related to changes in Patch-1
  • Fixed a problem where shortcuts in the "Formatting mark" sub-menu were not working
  • Fixed an issue where a new entry in autocorrection list would not be saved

2.0 Alpha 4 Patch-1: The new changes included in this patch are listed below:

  • Fixed an issue with exporting tagged PDF files
  • Fixed problems saving PowerPoint files on Intel Macs
  • Fixed potential crashes when loading documents
  • Fixed an issue where drag-and-drop and copy-paste of images did not work
  • Updated the file associations that NeoOffice declares it can handle
  • Image handling - This patch contains significant reductions in memory usage when images are scaled or transparent images are drawn. This reduction in memory usage should be most noticeable for users have have limited system memory.
  • Startup time - NeoOffice no longer forces loading of unloaded fonts while launching. This change not only eliminates the "hanging" while the splash screen is showing, but it frees up system memory that was used by the Mac OS X font server. Important note: you need to reboot after installing the patch before this performance enhancement will have any effect. Also, as a consequence of this fix, the font names in the font toolbar drop-down menu will be displayed in the standard UI font.

2.0 Alpha 4 Patch-0 (aka NeoOffice 2.0 Alpha 4): The new changes included in this patch are listed below:

  • Fixed an issue with kerning in exported PDF files
  • Fixed problems using the delete key with modifier keys
  • Fixed an issue where NeoOffice was unable to save files whose names contained non-ASCII characters to locations on NFS mounts
  • Fixed an issue where command-dragging failed to copy cell contents
  • Fixed problems that prevented saving custom AutoFormat entries
  • Fixed an issue where scrolling rapidly through some documents and then running certain macros might cause a crash
  • Fixed a crash caused by the presence of incompatible NeoOffice 1.x thesaurus files
  • Fixed an issue where pasting PDFs from Preview into Draw produced a black background instead of a transparent background

2.0 Alpha 3 PPC Patch-3: The new changes included in this patch are listed below:

  • Fixed a crash when using the Install Fonts wizard
  • Fixed a number of issues where items would display in the wrong location in multiple monitor setups
  • Fixed an issue where word auto-completion tooltips would sometimes fail to disappear
  • Fixed an issue where certain parts of Help articles were missing

2.0 Alpha 2 Intel Patch-0 (aka NeoOffice 2.0 Alpha 2 Intel): The new changes included in this patch are listed below:

  • Fixed an issue where certain items in the NeoOffice menu were non-functional
  • Fixed a crash when using the Install New Dictionaries or Install Fonts from the Web wizards
  • Fixed a crash when accessing Printer Settings
  • The print range setting in the print dialogue now works properly
  • Fixed a crash when creating a form in the Base form wizard
  • Fixed an issue where certain parts of Help articles were missing
  • Additional performance improvements

2.0 Alpha 3 PPC Patch-2: The new changes included in this patch are listed below:

  • Fixed a crash when dragging from iPhoto into an unsaved document
  • Fixed an issue where menu and dialog text was displayed incorrectly in some languages
  • Improved the performance of transitions in some slide shows
  • Fixed a crash when opening a certain .pps file

2.0 Alpha 3 PPC Patch-1: The new changes included in this patch are listed below:

  • Fixes crashes when dragging on pre-Mac OS X 10.3.9 machines
  • Fix for slide shows only showing a blank screen on Mac OS X 10.4 machines
  • Fixes for crashes when printing documents with clipped images
  • Fixes for crashes when installing some third-party packages using the Tools -> Package Manager dialog
  • Installation of a language pack now shows the correct product name in the About dialog

2.0 Alpha 3 PPC Patch-0 (aka NeoOffice 2.0 Alpha 3 PPC) The new changes included in this patch are listed below:

  • Support for playing sound and sound tracks in movies
  • Fixed a number of issues in drag-and-drop behavior
  • Fixed some issues with icon drawing behavior
  • NeoOffice 2.0 now writes type codes for files like NeoOffice 1.x did
  • Additional smaller bugfixes

2.0 Alpha 2 PPC Patch-0 (aka NeoOffice 2.0 Alpha 2): The new changes included in this patch are listed below:

  • Improved memory usage in many documents
  • Fixed an issue that prevented printing or PDF export
  • Fixed an issue which caused symbols in equations to appear misplaced

2.0 Alpha PPC Patch-2: The new changes included in this patch are listed below:

  • Fixed an issue where new OOo 2.0-style palettes were unable to be docked
  • Fixed an issue where exporting to PDF would crash, hang, or fail to include images
  • Fixed a crash in OOo code when selecting the Package Manager
  • Fixed an issue where NeoOffice was unable to open files that had been locked in the Finder
  • Reverted the change to the UI font size since the default was too small and since this setting can be adjusted in the application preferences now
  • Improved memory usage in long Writer documents

2.0 Alpha PPC Patch-1: The new changes included in this patch are listed below:

  • Fixed an issue where italicizing a line of text would cause it to "stack" characters at the end of the line on top of each other
  • Added shortcuts to the database component to the NeoOffice menu and the Dock menu
  • Allowed double-click opening of NeoBase document in the Finder, and gave those documents an icon
  • Closing the last document with Cmd-W now closes the grey window
  • Fixed the UI font size
  • Fixed an issue where importing a NeoOffice 1.x profile would cause a "BASIC error" when saving a file
  • Fixed a memory leak
