The extension called Pagination by Charles Brunet provides for a simpler way to handle page numbering.

Adjusting the Version Number

This extension is written for OpenOffice version 2.3. NeoOffice is currently at version 2.2.3. Some relatively simple "hacking" can get the extension to work for NeoOffice 2.2.3. Here are the required steps:

  1. Change the .oxt extension to .zip
  2. Double click on the file to unzip it
  3. Inside the folder is a file called description.xml. Control click or right-click on the file and open it with NeoOffice.
  4. There is a box that comes up asking which manner to open it leave all the settings as they are and click Yes it opens inNeoOffice.
  5. You will see text with two 2.3 located in there. change the 3 to a 2 so that you have it as 2.2.
  6. Save the file and close.
  7. Zip the entire content of the unzipped folder, i.e. everything that was unzipped as the Pagination-1.3.1.oxt folder, by control clicking or right clicking on the folder and choosing the Create Archive ....
  8. Rename the newly zipped file to Pagination-1.3.1.oxt

Installing the Extension

  1. Open Neooffice and Open a new Writer document.
  2. From the Tools menu, choose Extension Manager.... My Extensions is highlighted in blue; click Add. It is not possible to add it to NeoOffice Extensions.
  3. Navigate to where the newly zipped folder is and hit Open and you see a little run/install progress bar appear.
  4. Click the triangle on My Extensions and there is a new triangle with the newly added Paginator zip file. Mine says enabled.
  5. Click on the Paginator triangle and the other two subfiles also show enabled.
  6. Click Close.
  7. Quit NeoOffice

Accessing the Extension

Because the Paginator extension uses a feature only available in OpenOffice.org 2.3 or higher to create the menu, a Page Number menu will not be displayed. The extension can still be accessed, however.

  1. Open Neooffice again and create a new blank Writer document
  2. Go to the Tools menu and choose Macros and then Run Macro.
  3. In the dialog that appears, expand My Macros and then Pagination and select Pagination.
  4. Select Main in the right-hand pane and click Run.

It is also possible to assign the Macro a keyboard shortcut.

Please be aware that we are now essentially hacking the author's extension so please be kind and don't complain to the author if you are having problems with these workarounds.
