In Calc it is possible to drag and drop a cell range by using only the mouse. You get the same result as if you were using the copy-paste or cut-paste functionality, but nothing is put in the clipboard.

Dragging and Dropping in the same sheet
Moving a cell range
- Select the range you want to move by dragging the cursor, or by clicking on the first cell at the top left, then pressing on the Shift key and clicking on the last cell at the bottom right.
- Release the mouse button.
- Click on any cell in the selected range, then start to drag the pointer. It takes the appearance of a hand.
- Drag the pointer to the desired location (a frame will follow the cursor showing you where the cells will be moved to) and release the mouse button.
The cell range is moved to the chosen location and the original one is deleted.
Moving a single cell
This method is slightly different.
- Select the cell you want to move by clicking once on the cell, and then clicking on it again whilst pressing the Shift key.
- Click again on this cell, then start to drag the pointer. It takes the appearance of a hand.
- Drag the pointer to the desired location and release the mouse button.
Copying a cell range
- Select the range you want to copy by dragging the cursor, or by clicking on the first cell at the left side top, then pressing on the Shift key and clicking on the last cell at the right side bottom.
- Release the mouse button
- Whilst holding down the Opt key, click in the first cell in the range where you want to paste a copy of the selected range.
The original range is copied into the new location without being deleted.
Copying a single cell
- Select the cell you want to copy by clicking once on the cell, and then clicking on it again whilst pressing the Shift key.
- Whilst holding down the Opt key, click on the cell where you want to paste a copy of the selected cell.
The original cell is copied into the new location without being deleted.
Dragging and Dropping between two different sheets
- Select the range you want to copy. It may consist of a single cell.
- Go to the Data menu and choose Define Range….
- Give this range a name, for example CopyTest and click on Add. Click on OK.
- Select the sheet in which you want to copy this range.
- Open the Navigator by going in the Edit menu, then selecting Navigator.
- Click on the little triangle on the left side of Database Ranges.
- Select the CopyTest range, right click or Control-click on this rectangle.
- Choose Drag Mode then Insert as Copy in the contextual menus.
- Drag the rectangle CopyTest from the Navigator window to the location where you want to copy this range.
The original range is copied into this location without being deleted.
