Turning off automatic word completion
- From the Tools menu, choose AutoCorrect....
- Next, if it is not already selected, choose the Word Completion tab from the top of the window.
- Make sure that Enable word completion is unchecked.
- Press OK at the bottom of the window.
Turning off other automatic formatting
You can disable other common autoformatting annoyances in the same AutoCorrect/AutoFormat dialogue.
- From the Tools menu, choose AutoCorrect....
- Choose the Options tab from the top of the window.
- Uncheck Apply numbering - symbol: •, for instance, to disable automatic list numbering.
- Uncheck Apply border, for instance, to disable the transformation of a series of dashes, underscores, or asterisks into borders (lines).
- Most of the other options are self-explanatory.
- Press OK at the bottom of the window to save your changes.
Reverting automatic formatting on a “one-time†basis
You can also revert most auto-formatting (including the conversion of straight quotes into curly quotes, e.g., for use in measurements, 3") on a time-by-time basis by pressing Cmd-Z (Undo) after the automatic formatting takes place, and your original text will re-appear.
