Problems after upgrading to El Capitan?
Step 1 - Download and install the latest version of NeoOffice
- NeoOffice Classic Edition users:
- Install NeoOffice 2015.2 Classic Edition if you are running an older version of NeoOffice
- Install Java SE Development Kit (JDK) from Oracle. Note: only Oracle's JDK will work. Neither Apple's Java nor Oracle's Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) will work.
- NeoOffice Mac App Store users:
- Ensure that Apple's App Store application has installed NeoOffice 2015.2 by launching Apple's App Store application and doing these steps
- If NeoOffice does not launch or NeoOffice Free Edition launches, we recommend that you try the following steps. These steps will force Apple's App Store application to redownload NeoOffice:
- Quit NeoOffice
- Move NeoOffice to the Trash and empty the Trash
- Reboot your machine (note: this step is very important because if you do not reboot, the steps below may not work)
- Launch Apple's App Store application, select the Store > Sign In menu item, and login using your Apple iTunes account
- In the App Store application, click on the "Purchases" icon and press the "Install" button to the right of NeoOffice
- Wait for NeoOffice to finish downloading before you try to launch NeoOffice
Step 2 - If NeoOffice crashes or does not save, try these steps
The following steps will force NeoOffice to create new user preference files with default values:
- Quit NeoOffice
- NeoOffice Classic Edition users:
- In the Finder, select the Go > Go to Folder menu item, copy the following path into the dialog that appears, and press the Go button:
~/Library/Preferences/NeoOffice-3.0 - Drag the selected NeoOffice-3.0 folder to the Trash
- In the Finder, select the Go > Go to Folder menu item, copy the following path into the dialog that appears, and press the Go button:
- NeoOffice Mac App Store users:
- In the Finder, select the Go > Go to Folder menu item, copy the following path into the dialog that appears, and press the Go button:
~/Library/Containers/org.neooffice.NeoOfficeSecureEdition/Data/Library/Preferences/NeoOfficeSecureEdition - Drag the selected NeoOfficeSecureEdition folder to the Trash
- In the Finder, select the Go > Go to Folder menu item, copy the following path into the dialog that appears, and press the Go button:
- Launch NeoOffice
Step 3 - If NeoOffice crashes when you select the Format > Cells menu item, try these steps
There is a font handling bug that Apple created in OS X El Capitan. This Apple bug can cause NeoOffice to crash when NeoOffice tries to draw text using the Arial Unicode MS font. To stop the crashing, disable the Arial Unicode MS font using the following steps:
- In the Finder, go to the /Applications folder and launch the Font Book application
- In the Font Book application window, go to the middle column and select the Arial Unicode MS font
- Select the Edit > Disable "Arial Unicode MS" Family menu item
Step 4 - If NeoOffice still has problems, try these steps
- Quit NeoOffice
- In the Finder, go to the /Applications/Utilities folder and launch the Terminal application
- Copy the following commands into the Terminal window and press the Return key:
defaults delete org.neooffice.NeoOffice
defaults delete org.neooffice.NeoOfficeSecureEdition - Launch NeoOffice
Step 5 - If NeoOffice displays question marks or boxes instead of text, try these steps
Find and remove any fonts that are incompatible with OS X El Capitan using the following steps:
- In the Finder, go to the /Applications folder and launch the Font Book application
- In the Font Book application window, select all fonts by selecting the All Fonts item in the left column
- In the Font Book application window, click on a font in the middle column, select the Edit > Select All menu item, and then select the File > Validate Fonts menu item
- In the Font Validation window that appears, select any fonts that that are marked in red or yellow and press the Remove Checked button
If NeoOffice still displays question marks or boxes instead of text after doing the above steps, change the font to one of Apple's fonts that can display the language of your text using the following steps:
- Select some text in the document that displays as question marks or boxes
- Right-click or Control-click on the selected text
- In the popup menu that appears, select the Font menu item, and then select one of the following fonts:
- Arabic - Geeza Pro
- Chinese - Heiti SC
- Hebrew - Lucida Grande
- Indic - Davanagari
- Japanese - Hiragino Kaku Gothic
Fixed bugs
- NeoOffice would hang when opening a new window while in full screen mode
- Typing text in a full screen mode window would fail
- NeoOffice would ignore most keystrokes when typing many common Indic language words
- Any color settings for changes in Writer documents that were set to By author or [None] would be unset when quitting NeoOffice
- NeoOffice would crash when opening LibreOffice HTML files that contain images
- NeoOffice would crash when rendering Indic characters using the Arial Unicode MS font
- NeoOffice would draw any text that has its scaling the width setting set to greater than 100% wider than normal
- NeoOffice would display some dialogs and dropdown lists behind the current document when in full screen mode
- NeoOffice would generate an empty mail merge if you select the From: field in the Mail Merge dialog
- NeoOffice would hang for a minute or longer when updating links in spreadsheets
