Timeline

As every timeline needs a starting point,so does this one. So let's call it the year 0AN. This gives us the Before NeoOffice era (BN) and the After NeoOffice era (AN).

  • 22BN - 12BN 1980-1990 :A star is born - StarOffice by StarDivision
  • 3BN-1999: StarDivision bougth by Sun Microsystems
  • 2BN-2000-Oct: Dawn of OpenOffice.org - StarOffice 6.0 code open-sourced by Sun Microsytems- partial port to Mac OS X included - basis for OpenOffice .org on Mac and NeoOffice projects
  • 2BN - 0AN: OpenOffice.org on Mac - OpenOffice.org/X11
  • 0AN 2002: Dawn of NeoOffice - NeoOffice/C project - replace X11technologie by native Mac API and routines
  • 1AN-2003-Jun: NeoOffice/J sees the light - make NeoOffice independent of X11 by use of Javaâ„¢
  • 2AN-2004: NeoOffice/C laid to rest - concentrate on NeoOffice/J
    • -Sept: Aquafication begins
  • 3AN-2005-Jun :NeoOffice/J 1.1 first whole-number, non-developmental release of NeoOffice/J -NeoLight Spotlight integrationt -Quickstart service
    • -Jun: Start migration to Intel Mac - Java 1.4.2 codebase
  • 4AN-2006-Feb: NeoOffice 1.2 - dropped the " /J" - Java 1.4.2 codebase
    • -Mar: NeoOffice averages nearly 2 million downloads per year
    • -Apr: NeoOffice 2.0 Alpha PowerPC
    • -Jun: NeoOffice 2.0 Alpha Intel - first NeoOffice version to run on Intel-based Mac
      • NeoOffice 2.0 Aqua Beta - native scrollbars, buttons, check-boxes, and other widgets-native open and save dialogues ...
  • 5AN-2007-Mar: NeoOffice 2.1- first truly native, final-quality office suite release for Intel-based Macs - first application on Mac OS X to support reading and writing Microsoft Office 2007 OpenXML Word documents - NeoOffice became the only Mac app still in development to support VBA macros in Excel spreadsheets.(with Microsoft's discontinuation of support for VBA in the then-forthcoming Office 2008 for Mac)
    • -Oct: NeoOffice 2.2 - Further Mac and Aqua integration including use of the Mac OS X spelling and grammar checkers, access to the Mac OS X Address Book, Quick Look support, Image Capture-based image import, QuickTime video, native floating palettes, an iLife-like media browser, Apple Remote support, trackpad gesture support ... - incorporate http://go-oo.org/ and other open projects features
  • 6AN-2008-Sept: Start in-house development NeoOffice 3.0 PowerPC - Although Sun chose not to ship OpenOffice.org Aqua for PowerPC Macs, NeoOffice developers fixed many PPC-related bugs and performance problems in the OpenOffice.org 3.0 codebase and released a fully-supported NeoOffice 3 for PowerPC.
  • 7AN-2009-Mar: NeoOffice 3.0 based on OpenOffice.org 3.0 - Support Mac OS 10.4 en 10.5 Intel and PowerPC Macs- Additionally , compared to Standard OpenOffice.org, Services support and the ability to specify which component opens on launch.
    • -Oct:NeoOffice 3.01- official support for Mac OS X 10.6, the NeoOffice Mobile document-sharing solution, and a number of significant changes backported from OpenOffice.org 3.1
  • 8AN-2010-Feb: NeoOffice 3.0.2 - native highlighting, smoother text kerning, new user interface to control certain Mac OS X-specific features and to specify which component opens on launch, and support for live renaming and moving of open documents - 512x512px Finder icon
    • -May: NeoOffice 3.1.1 based on OpenOffice.org 3.1 - NeoOffice Mobile enhancements
