[edit] CDs from magazines

We've just run across another "bug" caused by someone installing a (very old, ca. March) 1.1 RC from a recent magazine CD. I'd like to include a few sentences/pgh to gently say to magazine folks, "we appreciate you distributing Neo, here's our general release schedule; can you try to include more recent builds to cut down on the support issues?" I don't know if there's a way to do that politely, so maybe it's not possible...

====Note to magazine publishers and other software CD distributors====
NeoOffice releases are made on roughly a quarterly schedule, and all alpha, beta, and release candidate versions ship with "patch-check" enabled. This sometimes causes problems for users who are notifed of patches that are incompatible with their (older) version of NeoOffice installed from CDs. We appreciate your decision to include NeoOffice on your CDs, and we are aware that your longer production deadlines and our release schedules may not be compatible.
This note exists simply to make you aware of our typical release schedule and to encourage greater communication among us; e.g., if we know a CD is coming out that includes a version of NeoOffice obsoleted between your production deadline and the CD's shipping date, we can be better prepared for the support questions that will follow. Similarly, we may be able to make a new build available to you in advance of the general release on the internet (due to mirroring latency) in order to meet your deadline, or you may decide to include NeoOffice on a CD timed to ship near the middle of a release's lifetime.

Just thinking....

[edit] Old Discussion on Creating the Original Draft

Yes, you understood—and preserved the meaning :-) There are still a few rough phrases, but we'll get them later.... --sardisson 03:45, 20 Jun 2005 (CDT)

Under the things that must be included on the CD, shouldn't the GPL be there too? --Waldo 13:21, 20 Jun 2005 (CDT)

It's in the installer. As long as they don't modify the installer (will anyone?), they're good. --sardisson 15:38, 20 Jun 2005 (CDT)

I still don't like the fact that we're implying at the very beginning (in pgh 2) that "selling is OK, no problem," before saying (in pgh 3) "wait a minute" and then finally towards the end of the intro saying "selling is ok, under these condidtions."

I'd rather remove the term "sell" from pgh 2 and/or merge pgh 2 and 3... --sardisson 16:22, 20 Jun 2005 (CDT)
