Well, we're late to the ballgame on this one (again), so feel free to use this condensed-and-updated version of the 1.1 announcement for PR purposes beginning at 12am US Eastern time Tuesday (UTC -4, Tuesday 29 August); editing may occur up to that point.

NeoOffice® 2.0 Aqua Beta Released

Planamesa Software and the NeoOffice.org community are proud to announce NeoOffice® 2.0 Aqua Beta 3, the first public release of an "Aquafied" version of our Mac OS X-native port of the OpenOffice.org office suite. NeoOffice 2.0 Aqua Beta includes Microsoft Office-compatible word processing, spreadsheet and presentation applications, as well as drawing and database applications and macro support.

NeoOffice 2.0 Aqua Beta 3 offers a significantly enhanced "Aqua" appearance, native open and save dialogs, and enhanced international input support as well as significantly improved performance over NeoOffice 1.2. This release is also available for both PowerPC and Intel processors. NeoOffice 2.0 Aqua Beta 3 is based on the latest stable OpenOffice.org codebase (2.0.3) and includes support for reading and writing files in the international standard ISO 26300 OpenDocument (ODF) file formats.

Like the previous versions, NeoOffice 2.0 Aqua Beta also offers extensive integration with Mac OS X, incorporating many enhancements not available in OpenOffice.org releases. Other key Macintosh features include a native Aqua menu bar, use of the Mac OS X printing system, full clipboard support, drag-and-drop, Mac "command" key shortcuts, mouse scrolling, native support for Mac fonts, and, via the built-in NeoLight plugin, support for Spotlight on Mac OS X 10.4.

NeoOffice 2.0 Aqua Beta 3 is available today as a free download from the Planamesa Software website at http://www.planamesa.com/neojava/. NeoOffice 2.0 Aqua Beta is compatible with PowerPC- and Intel-based Macintoshes running Mac OS X 10.3 and later.

Special thanks to all of the NeoOffice EAP members and volunteers who made this release possible (or something like that; where does that fit?)

Coverage

Because we were late out of the gate and understaffed, we didn't get quite the bang or saturation as we did for NeoOffice/J 1.1, but here are some of the places that covered the release:
