Inputting single-byte punctuation and numbers in Chinese, Japanese, or Korean text

Starting with NeoOffice 2.2.2 Patch 5, NeoOffice will automatically convert any spaces, punctuation, or Roman numbers to their matching double-byte format if they following any Chinese, Japanese, or Korean text. This automatic conversion was implemented to fix a bug in Apple's Java code which causes all double-byte spaces, punctuation, or Roman numbers input using a Chinese, Japanese, or Korean input method to be converted to single-byte format.

Unfortunately, since NeoOffice has no way of knowing when the current input method really wants NeoOffice to display single-byte format, users need to use the following steps to input single-byte punctuation and numbers in Chinese, Japanese, or Korean text:

1. Highlight the double-byte punctuation and numbers that you want to convert to single byte-format or move the cursor to the location where you want to input new punctuation and numbers in single-byte format.
2. Change the input method to one that does not output double-byte punctuation and numbers such as the Romaji or U.S. English input methods
3. Select the Insert :: Formatting Mark :: No-width no break menu item to separate
4. Type the punctuation and numbers that you want
