In Calc it is possible to drag and drop a cell range by using only the mouse. You get the same result as if you were using the copy-paste or cut-paste functionality, but nothing is put in the clipboard.

Moving a cell range

  • Select the range you want to move by dragging the cursor, or by clicking on the first cell at the top left, then pressing on the Shift key and clicking on the last cell at the bottom right.
  • Release the mouse button.
  • Click on any cell in the selected range, then start to drag the pointer. It takes the appearance of a hand.
  • Drag the pointer to the desired location (a frame will follow the cursor showing you where the cells will be moved to) and release the mouse button.

The cell range is moved to the chosen location and the original one is deleted.

Moving a single cell

This method is slightly different.

  • Select the cell you want to move by clicking once on the cell, and then clicking on it again whilst pressing the Shift key.
  • Click again on this cell, then start to drag the pointer. It takes the appearance of a hand.
  • Drag the pointer to the desired location and release the mouse button.

  • Release the mouse button
  • Whilst holding down the Opt key, click in the first cell in the range where you want to copy the selected range.

Dragging and Dropping between two different sheets
