When you edit a Microsoft Office .docx, .xlsx, or .pptx file in NeoOffice, the Save As dialog will appear when you save your file. The File type in the Save As dialog will be set to NeoOffice's .odt, .ods, or .odp file format.

This is normal behavior and is there to protect you from data loss. While NeoOffice can open many .docx, .xlsx, or .pptx files, NeoOffice's ability to save .docx, .xlsx, or .pptx files is very limited. In many cases, NeoOffice will fail to save some of the data and formatting in your document when saving to Microsoft's .docx, .xlsx, or .pptx file format.

Recent versions of Microsoft Office can open NeoOffice's .odt, .ods, and .odp files. So, to protect against loss of data and formatting when saving Microsoft Office files, the Save As dialog appears so that you can safely save your changes to a NeoOffice .odt, .ods, or .odp file.
